History of the DPDTA

The History of the DPDTA goes back to 1992. In order for us to collate the mass of movement and work that has gone into the making of this brilliant organisation, time  ran out before the website went live. We will endevour to have this up for you in the next two weeks. Please read our media release to give you some information in the meantime.

Australia’s Top Professional Dog Trainers join forces with Vets and the RSPCA

Australia wide: Veterinary Behaviourists, Dr Kersti Seksel BVSc(Hons), MRCVS, MA(Hons), FACVSc (Animal Behaviour), Diplomate ACVB, CMAVA, Dip ECVBM-CA and Dr Caroline Perrin BVSc MACVSc (Veterinary Behaviour) CMAVA at Sydney Animal Behaviour Service, today welcome the move to unite trainers that use only positive reinforcement as the most humane and effective training method for dogs.

"Both have stated that as "Science tells us that positive reinforcement is not only the most effective way of training for all species but is also the least likely to create more behaviour problems. Knowledge of canine behaviour is always growing and members of DPDTA (Delta Professional Dog Trainers Association) understand the importance of keeping up to date in this rapidly expanding field. This association brings together Australian and international trainers with high qualification standards, with ongoing further education and a passion about for the welfare of dogs that use compassionate and kind methods to train dogs."

Mrs Dee Scott the president of the DPDTA said this association was a dream a few short years ago and has now become a reality. People from within Australia and overseas who have a common goal in recognising the science and effectiveness of reward based training have been able to come together under one umbrella. In a world where the pet industry is unregulated, the public can now be assured that they will have quality assurance and expertise when hiring a dog trainer from within the DPDTA.

People can visit the DPDTA website at www.dpdta.com.au and chose a trainer in their state. The website also has a growing list of information for the general public and we encourage people to join us on facebook.
